Unladylike

The mothership.

In 2018, Caroline Ervin and I launched Unladylike podcast with a three-pronged vision: 1. Expand what a show about women, gender and feminism can sound like. 2. Amplify overlooked voices and lived experiences. 3. Make it fun!

Blending narrative storytelling, interviews, research and advice, Unladylike spent hundreds of episodes excavating gender constructs, interrogating body politics, disarming sexist booby traps and most importantly, cultivating community.

For instance, when we asked listeners (aka unladies) to describe Unladylike in three words, responses included:

  • Fearless, deep, kind

  • Empowering, magical, unifying

  • Safe, hilarious, home

  • Reading my mind

The show regularly featured luminaries like Tori Amos, Geena Davis and Roxanne Gay, but it was always the life-changing stories we heard back from listeners that proved out Unladylike’s purpose and impact.

Piloted by Stitcher and previously distributed by SiriusXM.

Show credits: Co-creator, host, writer and executive producer.
